A baby boomer is someone born in the period just after World War II in the United States. Baby boomers are part of a huge generation.

After World War II, which ended in 1945, there was an enormous spike in the U.S. population — many new babies were born, and this period was called the baby boom. The kids from this generation are called the baby boomers — or boomers. Boomers have gotten a lot of attention because there are so many of them. It can help you remember what baby boomers are if you know that a boom is an increase in something.
